Langkawi, Malaysia

With our final months ticking down quickly, Paul was getting anxious that we weren't getting enough trips in.  So in between Christmas and Chinese New Year, we squeezed in a four-day weekend to the island of Langkawi in Malaysia (Paul binged on Malaysia three times in two months).  We picked a secluded resort and for the first trip ever, we just hung out only at the resort and only relaxed.

We stayed at the Andaman Resort, named after the Andaman Sea it was on.  It was built into a steep hill, with beautiful views, had a great pool, nice beach and great spa.  We're usually more pool people than sitting on the beach people, but this time we were opposite despite this really nice pool set up!

The sand was soft, the water warm, the kids spent hours playing in the sand and floating around.  I enjoyed reading and lounging.  All of this makes for a really boring blog post.

But here are some interesting things-- there were these really tiny sand crabs that burrowed down into the sand when the tide was out and then while digging their burrowing holes, rolled up the sand into perfect tiny round sand balls and rolled them away.  The beach was covered with all these tiny sand works of art.  I was fascinated and took lots of pics, but I'll spare you except for these two.

While I did catch those tiny crabs in action, I never did see what creature made these sand knobs.  No idea what formed them each morning.

Aside from fun mini sand sculptures, the resort also had a coral nursery that the kids got a snorkel tour of.  They found Nemo and some other cool sea life, including touchable starfish and sea cucumbers.  Sea cucumbers look slimy and squishy, but they're not, but they are still gross to me.

Other wildlife included mischievous monkeys and cute geckos.

We also had great food with a Malaysian buffet one night....

And one of Paul's favorite meals in our past two years here was the fresh fish restaurant-- pick your fish, chef cooks it whatever style you want.  So delicious.  The place was beachfront, check your shoes at the door.  The only restaurant floor I have had no problem letting my kids play around on.

The four days flew by, sadly.  Saying goodbye and one last
pic (just in case) as we boarded Malaysia Airlines (still better than Delta).
